GVF is partnering with the Norristown Area School District to bring the My School in Motion program to Eisenhower Middle School, Blockson Middle School, Davenport Elementary School, and Hancock Elementary School.

Stay tuned to this page for educational resources and information about kick-off events - Coming soon!

Components of the program include:

  • A My School in Motion Club and program events for community engagement.

  • Education on walking and biking safely. Improved safety prevents tragedy.

  • Understanding of the importance of safe streets, sidewalks, and connections in facilitating walking and biking to school.

  • Identifying physical obstacles to safe walking and biking within the community helps prioritize infrastructure improvements during a walking and biking audit.

  • Awareness of the academic and health benefits of physical activity. Habits won’t change overnight—many people are used to driving everywhere.

Parents and Guardians….Welcome to ‘your’ page of the ‘School in Motion’ website for the Valley Forge Middle School!

The ‘My School in Motion’ program undertaken by GVF, T/E School District and Valley Forge Middle School aims to bring together two important themes in your child’s education:  the health and wellness components of walking and biking to school as well as the value of these activities as an alternate mode of transportation.  We are educating the next generation of ‘commuters’!

We will post articles, links and educational guidelines within these themes for your education…and to encourage your family’s participation with the whole community.  Thanks for your interest and participation!

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has studied the relationship between physical activity and student performance and offers recommendations on activity levels for adolescents as well as adults.

The National ‘Safe Routes to School’ program has been a program in existence for over ten years and advocates for safe, compliant routes for children to walk or bike to school.  Check out their guidance documents for parents and guardians interested in starting a ‘bike train’ to school…and ‘walking school buses’ - an active way to join spend time with your child and reduce the amount of car traffic near your school.

Check out the resources available through the CDC below.

Walk or Bike to School Day Video

With the pandemic stopping in-person events, VFMS had to get creative and found ways to celebrate and recognize both International and National Bike and Walk to School days during 2020 and 2021.

Check out the video created to celebrate the days!

Biking and Walking Audit

Biking and Walking Audits look at the streets, sidewalks, and connections in a neighborhood to assess safety.

As part of the My School in Motion program, an audit of the streets surrounding the Valley Forge Middle School was conducted in June 2021.

The report highlights observations made.
